Microtrace Microtaggant® brand Identification Particles are a microscopic, traceable, anti-counterfeit technology. Microtaggants are highly versatile in their use and application. In basic form, Microtaggants are a unique numeric code sequence in a multiple coloured layer format. In more complex forms, Microtaggants deliver multiple layers of security through the incorporation of several “energy sensitive” taggant technologies. These taggants can be detected and read with a variety of inexpensive, hand-held devices. The combination of multiple “taggant” technologies makes the Microtaggant very difficult to impossible to replicate. Microtaggant Identification Particles act as virtual fingerprints, resulting in positive, error-free identification every time. Microtrace Microtaggant technology enables employees or investigators to do on-the-spot field testing, providing positive, instant identification and verification of materials.
Facts - Custom Microtaggant codes are created exclusively for each customer or application. To ensure security of codes, every Microtaggant code is Certified and Registered on the Microtrace Central Database and is never again used for any other purpose. Microtrace can produce over 37 million unique codes and incorporate various “energy sensitive” materials into the structure if each particle that acts as a code within a code. Optional features such as fluorescent, magnetic, IR and other components may be added to aid in the location and retrieval of code material. Microtaggants are detectable in the field or lab using a variety of readers. Microtaggant Identification particles range in size from over 1,000 microns for explosives tracing down to fewer than 20 microns for select applications. The word “taggant” originated from the Microtrace trademark “Microtaggant.”

The Microtaggant® code particle is composed of multiple layers of colour using a library of 10 colours based on the international electrical resistor colour code system. Each colour is assigned a numeric value. Together these colour layers make up unique code sequences.Black 0,Brown 1, Red 2, Orange 3, Yellow 4, Green 5, Blue 6, Violet 7, Gray 8,

structure of the Microtaggant particle adding multiple levels of security and

Standard Microtaggant: Colour code with fluorescent or magnetically responsive layers.
Energy Sensitive Microtaggants: Microtrace can provide multiple taggant technologies, including nanotechnology materials, in a single delivery format allowing incorporation of multiple codes in a single Microtaggant particle for multiple levels of security. No other company can do this.
IR to Visible / IR to IR / Specific IR: IR to visible material emits a visible colour when triggered with a specific frequency of laser light. Various emission colours are available. One or more colours of IR may be incorporated in one or more layers of each particle. IR to IR responsive materials does not emit a visible colour response. This material is triggered at one IR frequency and emits at another. Specific IR material emits a unique combination of IR frequencies. Hand held audible detectors are available to detect the presence of all IR Microtaggants.
Elemental Codes: Unique combinations of various elemental materials may be incorporated in each Microtaggant particle. These trace elements can be detected and identified by XRF analysis. This unique combination of materials within the Microtaggant provides a forensic level encoding.
Spectral Codes: Unique combinations of spectrally responsive materials can be corporated in each Microtaggant particle. This unique combination of materials may be analyzed with a spectrometer.
High Temperature Microtaggant: stable at 430°C for extended exposures. (Standard Microtaggant® stable to 350°C for short exposures)
Bio Compatible Microtaggants: Meets the standards for ISO 10993.
